Relaxing in Portsmouth

UK Maritime is the trading title of Peter & Ingrid Cornish trading as UK Maritime.

Our background is both nautical and technical.  We have owned various boats since 1980 when we purchased our first small motor cruiser which we kept moored at Maidenhead on the river Thames. Since that time we have worked our way up to larger boats including an Ocean 37 and Fisher 38 motor cruiser.  We have now gone full circle and are back happily cruising on the Norfolk Broads on our converted Alpha Craft Broads Cruiser.

Having come from a technical background marine electronics has always interested me. I came originally from an electronics background having worked on various radar systems since 1970 and I have held a VHF operators certificate for some years.

In 2002, having sold our business and "semi?" retired, I decided to become an RYA VHF & Radar Assessor. I have now been taking courses on this subject for almost four years. At the end of 2004 we decided, following a number of requests that we would expand our training side to include the supply and installation marine electronics.

Part of my job responsibilities before setting up our training company was the provision of seminars and training courses in the field of Information Technology.

We take the subject of training seriously and have invested in state of the art DSC simulators, Radar simulators and multimedia presentation in order to ensure that the delivery of the subject is as good as it could be.

At the end of each course we also ask course participants to complete a questionaire in which they can "rate" the different aspects of the day.

Using this information we can ensure that the standard that we set is maintained.

Most of our training is carried out at our local club, the Royal Norfolk & Suffolk Yacht Club which is based in the harbour mouth in Lowestoft.  We also carry out freelance training for a number of training schools throughout East Anglia.

"Hard" radio simulators ensure that course participants get the feel of handling an actual radio.

Make My Day!  Do you know how your heart drops when some letters fall onto your desk.  Mine did this morning when we received a letter from a company called "The Leadership Factor".  They carry out surveys of people who have taken the course with us on behalf of the RYA in order to ensure that training centres are up to scratch.  In our case they contacted two of our past students and asked them to rate the course on a basis of 1 to 10 ( 1 = completely dissatisfied, 10 = completely satisfied)  We have listed our scores below:

Forgive us if this looks as though we are blowing our own trumpet. It is, we can assure you, natural pride which comes from seeing that other people feel that you are doing things well.

To the two students involved, whoever you might be, many thanks. You made our day.

Internal Audit Results

In order to ensure that we continue to meet the required training standards, each participant on our courses is asked to fill in a questionaire rating what they have felt about aspects of the training course.

There are six questions rated 1 to 5 for satisfaction.  The questions cover technical aspects as well as speed of training and what people feel about the environment in which they are being trained.

The questions and marks are given in the following table:

Question 1 - What was the standard of documentation that you received on the course?
5 = excellent 4 = above average 3 = average 2 = below average 1 = poor

January 2006 ~ Another satisfied customer

I should also like to thank you for your genial and tolerant style of instruction.  It goes down well with all ages, I think, and we certainly found it helpful.

Many thanks

Sincerely

Bill

Our pleasure Bill and we both hope to see you both again.
